About Östergötland
Östergötland is one of Sweden's 21 counties. Östergötland has 416,000 residents living in 13 different municipalities.
Linköping and Norrköping are metropolitan areas with much of what is associated with major cities — a broad labour market and rich cultural life.
Motala, Finspång and Mjölby are densely populated areas with a substantial range of services, and as significant industrial districts, have their own large labour markets.
Söderköping and Åtvidaberg are chief towns in their respective municipalities and are distinct local centres, at the same time as they are close to Norrköping and Linköping, respectively, with excellent opportunities for commuting.
In Östergötland, the majority of the smaller municipalities' chief towns, such as Valdemarsvik, Ödeshög, Boxholm, Vadstena, Ydre and Kisa, are relatively distant from the two major cities. These towns have their own labour markets but commuting to Norrköping or Linköping is an option.
